Leadership trends

The Fourth Industrial Revolution demanded that CEOs take responsibility for the massive transformation of their businesses and for the astonishing impact that this transformation will have on the wider society and all the stakeholders. Success requires CEOs to develop the right leadership capabilities, workforce skills, and corporate cultures to support digital transformation and become agile to face the many uncertainties. A revolution in skills and a transformation of organizations is highly needed to sustain one’s presence in the marketplace.

According to blessingwhite.com, those who take into account individual values and personal differences while creating an environment of shared responsibility create a place where individuals enjoy work more and become more productive. Hence, the leadership trends that support transformation in the market and the economy are the following:

  • Coach and be ready to be coached: employees rely on the support of their companies to take on business challenges. Empowering employees makes them more innovative and intrapreneurial in addition to increasing their sense of belonging to the company. Empowerment should be preceded by delegation of authority.

Coaching should be purposeful and focused to enhance productivity. Being ready to be coached is rooted in the concept of being a lifelong learner to keep pace with the new trends of one’s profession. Leaders who seek and are open to feedback will be better positioned to gain the commitment and enthusiasm of the employees they lead.

  • Realize it is a millennial and Generation Z world: millennials make up 50% of the workforce. According to the data obtained from the LinkedIn survey, the number one reason millennials change jobs is to advance their career, followed by compensation and the desire for more challenging work and roles that are a better fit for their skills and interests. Research shows that millennials want to be challenged and are willing to work hard. They are positive, creative, optimistic and forward-looking. At the same time, they come with some pretty strong ideas about work/life balance, company values, and career expectations.

They are also a generation for whom a remote work environment and wearable technology are the norm. Leaders have to adopt a collaborative mindset to get the commitment of millennials and Generation Z cohorts. This generation is personally driven to seek education and professional development to increase employment opportunities in a world economy hit by many crises.

  • Create and leverage on a diverse work environment: Inclusive leadership must become part of the DNA of an organization. This kind of leadership surpasses tolerance and acceptance of others’ differences; it is about creating an inclusive workplace where employees representing all dimensions of diversity can thrive. Catalyst’s research identifies four core skills of inclusive leaders known as “EACH Mindset”.

EACH stands for:

a. Empowerment

b. Accountability

c. Courage

d. Humility Organizations like Catalyst have been able to demonstrate that there is an increased return on equity for businesses with more women and minorities in their executive levels. In addition, the research also shows that the more included employees feel, the more innovative and productive they are.

  • Vertical development, ownership development, and collective development: Vertical development refers to the advancement in a person’s thinking capacities. The outcome of vertical stage development is the ability to think in more complex, systemic, strategic, and interdependent ways. This comes in contrary to horizontal development, which is the development of new skills, abilities, and behaviors.

Horizontal development is most useful when a problem is clearly defined and there are known techniques for solving it. Due to the uncertainties controlling the business environment, vertical development has gained more momentum.

Ownership development: People develop fastest when they feel responsible for their progress and are involved in decision making and planning regardless of their position in the hierarchical structure of the company.

Collective Leadership: According to Simmons & Weinrich “[g]aining everyone’s participation is essential to a team’s success. Without an individual’s participation, the unique skills, talents, experience, and knowledge he/she brings to the team will be wasted.”

Factors Contributing to Better Collective Leadership

  • Open flows of information
  • More flexible and flatter hierarchies
  • Distributed resources
  • Distributed decision-making
  • Less centralization and control

Distributed leadership:

Distributed leadership can be considered to include shared, democratic, dispersed, and other related forms of leadership. It is a leadership style where leaders can emerge and exercise the power of knowledge wherever they are in the organizational chart. There are three premises of distributed leadership:

  1. Leadership is an emergent property of a group or network of interacting individuals
  2. There is an openness to the boundaries of leadership
  3. Varieties of expertise are distributed across the different levels of the organizational chart. Leaders might emerge based on the need of their expertise and how such expertise might be of impact

With the change in the pace of work, the impact of ever-changing technology, shifting demographics, increased environmental ambiguity, complexity, and uncertainty, being a leader is more challenging than ever before. Good leaders understand these trends and equip themselves with the skills required to embrace them. Effective leaders are characterized by being visionaries, a trait that leads to seizing opportunities and developing products and services to satisfy needs and wants not attended to by competitors. Leaders contribute to the competitive advantage sought by their corporations.

The environment and context of leadership have changed, becoming more multifaceted, unstable, and unpredictable. Because of these changing trends, a leader’s skills are more demanding in the sense of having more complex, adaptive thinking abilities and being vertically developed. With the new form of economy and the advent of information technology, more individuals now have the chance to show and exercise their leadership abilities to reach higher positions in the organizational chart or start their entrepreneurial ventures.

  2. I appreciated reading this post since it reflected my thoughts and opinions on what leadership is. Leadership comes in many different shapes and sizes, as well as various theoretical definitions. It’s the process of persuading a group of people to work together toward a common objective. The ability to empower people and encourage mutual effectiveness is a key component of leadership. The ability to empower people and encourage mutual effectiveness is a key component of leadership. As a result, leadership is now described as a joint activity that include organizing, regulating, and guiding others toward a common goal. A leader, on the other hand, sees opportunities for improvement and can rally others to help. Leaders that place a high value on their employees will work hard to make their vision a reality. “Great leaders do not tell you what to do; instead, they demonstrate how to accomplish it.”
Leadership entails the ability to encourage others and inspire collective effectiveness. It also necessitates the ability to interpret and adapt to an ever-more-complex environment. The environment in which businesses operate has evolved dramatically and continues to do so. This means that leaders must possess a considerably broader range of talents than in the past, with a strong emphasis on adaptability and the capacity to understand and respond to complexity. In reality, good management requires and requires leadership, as it aids in enhancing the organization’s efficiency and goals. Effective school leadership is increasingly being viewed as a fundamental to long-term educational transformation in the field of education. According to a growing amount of research, schools with instructional leadership outperform their peers. It’s a valuable piece of information, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Although leaders must be inventive, creative, and focused in order to increase employee productivity and self-confidence, employees must participate in all aspects of the business and voice their thoughts in order to produce different and better results. Employees shouldn’t have to work under the dictates of their bosses all of the time, and they shouldn’t be stressed or terrified of them.

  3. Leadership is not something you are born with nor it is something that comes quick, it takes time. If you look at the history of leaders and their accomplishments, you will realize that most of them became who they are overtime. To become a leader, you need to have followers, not those that follow you because of your status (manager, principal, supervisor, etc..) but rather those that look up to you, and perceive you as a role model, and that only comes with experience. If employees don’t have a sense of belonging, it’s always because of poor leadership. On the contrary, effective leadership creates a culture where everyone that is part of that culture is part of a family, and that feeling, is the most valuable thing you can give your employee/followers, and guess what, it’s free!

    1. As we know, leadership is the way of motivating  people toward achieving their  common goals. Being a leader is not an easy thing since it needs professionality and to have some abilities that help in succeeding in this domain. In this article, i saw the importance of leadership in an organization. Moreover, the stronger the leadership is, the stronger the workplace will be in skills and having more power. In Addition to that, leaders need to develop more and more. Leaders should know how to set goals and how to work hard to reach these goals. However, as a leader, we should have the skills of communication and to be good listeners also. In my opinion, to be a successful leader is not an easy task, so we should work hard on ourselves and show others that we are strong and we have the ability to do such a thing.

  4. This article made me think further about leadership and its role in any business or organization, it urged and encouraged me to think more about being a leadership one day, raise my career expectations and seek for higher positions.
Because, leadership is the most popular topic for research, there are a plethora of leadership definitions. Leadership refers to a company’s management’s ability to create and achieve hard goals, act quickly and decisively when necessary, exceed the competition, and motivate others to perform at their best.
In other words, a leader’s job is to make sure that employees are motivated by and committed to the organization’s success. This includes boosting and maintaining employee morale by ensuring that each employee realizes the critical role they play in the company and that their contributions are recognized.
While I was reading the article, the “empowering” topic caught my eye. Because I believe that Great leaders free people to use their own power by releasing the leader within them. Everyone wants to feel like they’re making a difference. By recognizing others’ abilities and prospective contributions, you may empower them. Then, in their area of strength, invite them to lead and contribute.
Finally, as stated by “Horner”, the concept of leadership is a constantly investigated human philosophy that creates a leadership attribute on a regular basis.

  5. This article has really added to my information about leadership. Being a leader especially in this technological era demands a lot of leadership skills that are required in the workplace today. Without such skills, the leader might not be able to be in line with a rapidly changing world. To begin with, leadership is seen not as a status or position held, but a process, which is characterized by an energy and commitment to focus on shared goals and a shared vision for the workplace. Leaders who create an environment where everyone of the employees is valued, appreciated and admired is actually creating a workplace where the employees have a sense of belonging and involvement in decision making. Once the employees get involved in decision making, they are more likely to show more responsibility and more excitement for being more productive. One of the leadership trends that is mentioned in the above article is training the employees to coach and to be coached. The employees in a workplace must be open to different types of feedback especially peer feedback and 360 feedback where everyone in the organization feels that s/he can always benefit from others’ comments. If the leader is a person who is open to feedback and to other opinions, if he is a role model for the others by modeling the change he wants to see in others, then the other employees will be more likely to grow social relationships with others which in turn can create a social network among the employees. A good leader is the one who empowers other leaders and do not just create more followers. Decentralization is one of the important trends for successful leadership where delegating tasks or jobs is dominant over limiting the decision to one person only.

In order for the leaders to attract the millennials who are always active, excited and creative, they have always to provide them with professional development depending on their needs in order to be equipped with the needed skills for today’s jobs and to keep up with the new demands of the market. In addition, respecting the diversity and the personal differences among the employees can create acceptance for others, attention, support from members of the group as well as providing the same attention to the other members.

Regardless of the leadership style that a leader might follow whether it’s collectives or distributive, the leader must be aware that there are five abilities that are crucial to successful leadership:
    1. Model the Way: A leader must lead by example. You can’t come into work 10 minutes late every day if you want your employees to arrive on time.
    2. Inspire a Shared Vision: If you capture the imagination, you will inspire creative thought and increase loyalty. The vision doesn’t need to be grandiose, but it needs to be communicated effectively for others to adopt it as one of their own.
    3. Challenge the Process: Don’t continue doing something just because “We’ve always done it that way.” Situations change, and sometimes a policy or procedure never worked well in the first place. Think outside the box.
    4. Enable Others to Act: Truly empower people to act on their own within their level of authority to feel a sense of belonging.
    5. Encourage the Heart: A positive attitude is infectious. If the leader appears passionate or excited about the vision, others will catch the enthusiasm as well.

In conclusion, being a great leader and demonstrating great leadership demand and require a lot of skills where creativity, good decision making, problem solving, openness, empathy, innovation, being visionary and adaptive are some of the requirements in the face of the uncertainty and ambiguity of the future.

  6. leadership is all about the relationship between those that aim and strive and those who select and follow them and work together on share goals. The entry of the Millennial generation or as I call it “the modern-day leader” into the leadership positions has made a profound transformation to the idea of a “leader”. A leader is no longer the smartest who knows everything, but rather a person who can thrive in a collaborative environment .Not only are the Millennial employees immersed in the fast-changing reality of new information technologies, but they also are positive, creative , aggressive about their career development, and are serious about the company values.
what attracted my attention is the idea of gender equality where there is a strong women’s representation in workplaces and leadership teams. I believe gender equality is linked to a country’s overall economic growth.
I consider a real leader the one who inspires others and understands each member of his team where communication, commitment and attitude are his essential ingredient of leadership. besides, creativity, ethics, empathy, ability to challenge failure among others and ability to take responsibility are the main traits that enable real leadership in a leader. these traits are in every leader to lead and others to follow, however, an effective leader takes up all of those and completes with collaboration with his team for a successful future.
it’s true that gaining everyone’s participation is essential to a team’s success specially when it involves decision making and planning. they would feel that they are part of the progress and motivated to take responsibilities.

  8. Leadership trends are vital components and leaders need to stay updated due to the massive transformations of business and management in today’s global economy. The new concepts of business require a new style of leadership that is capable to adopt the changing and to lead the transformation. Success requires leaders to develop the right leadership and workforce skills, and corporate culture in order to track the trends in the digital transformation world and face unexpected challenges. In this regard, the article mentioned many important leadership trends that support transformation in today’s marketplace and economy.
In line with the article, success occurs when leaders understand the market realities, the changing capability, personal development, diversity, and the effect of motivation on employees as a part of a successful changing process. leaders need to acquire a clear vision to find a strategy to enhance the changing efforts; then, provide their employees with actual support for the strategic vision in order to close the gap between leader efforts and employees’ commitment. More important, leaders should seek to enhance the culture of change for the employees because this change is an integral part of their efforts.
In my opinion, leaders should seek to develop their skills through lifelong learning. Competitive drive is the main motivator for lifelong learning, which is enhanced by enabling leadership in the critical levels of skills and knowledge. The companion between lifelong learning and competitive drive gives leaders the competitive capacity to understand leadership trends.
Personally, lifelong learning motivates me to do better through the new challenges and trends. For example, my desire to continue my education in the Master’s Program is challenging, but indeed, the gained knowledge and skills, including leadership skills, will give me a competitive capacity through different circumstances.

  9. In the ever changing world we are living in, organizations, managers, and leaders should be always prepared to keep up with any technological advance and to face any crisis. Leaders, who are truly visionary, contribute a lot in fulfilling what was mentioned above. Leadership as a concept is also changing and evolving over time; therefore, leaders should simultaneously update their skills and abilities to meet those changes. Managers, nowadays, should also be leaders for the organization to succeed and prosper. Leaders not only motivate or influence their followers, but they also empower them; this makes them more creative and more involved. On the other hand, employees at all levels should not only be empowered, they should also feel accepted in all dimensions, they should have equal chances to grow and flourish, they should participate effectively within their teams, and they should be held responsible for their decisions. This enables anyone in the organization to emerge as a leader and unveil any hidden expertise or skills. Leaders and followers at all levels should work together to achieve meaningful change.

  10. Leadership is having the skill and talent to impact and influence members by framing a clear vision towards achieving certain goals. An effective leader exhibits special traits and behaviors to plan, lead, organize, control, communicate and motivate.
As mentioned in the article, the conditions have been altered due to uncertainty in the surrounding environment in addition to escalating changes.
According to the contingency theory which is the situation we are in, the leader must be ready to face any upcoming challenges, be prepared to lead and reconstruct.
Did we see the innovation of skills and the evolution of organizations in businesses during the time-lapse between 2020 and 2021?
A final thought, good leadership is not in one’s position or title, but in the influence to make a difference by setting goals to be reached.

  11. Leadership is a process that is defined by an enthusiasm and dedication to focusing on common goals and a shared vision for the company. Being a leader, especially in this modern era, necessitates a wide range of leadership abilities that are now necessary in the workplace. Without such abilities, the leader may be unable to keep up with a fast changing reality. Employees at a company must be receptive to all forms of feedback, particularly peer feedback and 360 feedback, where everyone in the organization believes that he or she can always gain from the views of others. Training workers to teach and be coached is one of the leadership trends described in the preceding article. Employees who are active in decision making are more likely to take on additional responsibility and be more enthusiastic about being more productive. A good leader is one who empowers other leaders rather than simply creating more followers .Decentralization is an essential trend for successful leadership in which distributing duties or responsibilities takes precedence over restricting decisions to one person exclusively. Leaders must give professional development to their staff based on their requirements. Respecting variety and personal differences among employees in the workplace may lead to acceptance for others, attention, and support from group members, as well as offering the same attention to other members. Furthermore, respect for diversity in the workplace may foster a more pleasant work atmosphere in which individuals can focus on their own concerns and are not hesitant to voice them. Leaders must be aware that there are five essential skills for effective leadership. The leader must be able to lead by listening to his or her employees and knowing what they require from him or her. He or she must also be able to make decisions that will benefit the company in the long run:
-A leader must set a good example: you can’t be 10 minutes late every day if you want your staff to be on time.
-Capturing the imagination will stimulate innovative thinking and enhance loyalty. The vision does not have to be grandiose, but it must be properly articulated in order for people to accept it as their own. If you want to make a change in the world, you must first create an environment in which people believe they may pursue their passions.
-Don’t keep doing things the same way simply because we’ve always done them that way.
-In the first in a series of essays, Wales Simon Hooper examines how social media may be used to enable people to behave independently within their level of authority. In the second piece, Hooper discusses the significance of enabling individuals to feel like they belong. He believes it is critical for individuals to be able to govern their own life and not rely too heavily on others.
-Being a great leader and exhibiting great leadership need and necessitate a wide range of talents, including creativity, effective decision making, problem solving, openness, empathy, innovation, vision, and adaptability in the face of future uncertainty and ambiguity. A good mindset spreads. Others will catch the leader’s excitement if he or she looks enthusiastic or thrilled about the vision.

  12. This article lets me become more knowledgeable about the importance of leadership in an organization. The leadership is known as the backbone of a company.
The stronger the leadership is the stronger the workforce would be with skills ,employee engagement and a connection that has the power to accelerate performance.
To achieve a strong leadership you must set a clear vision, explain your vision and let the members of the organization know what they must do to achieve this vision.

Leadership must become part of us in the organization. When the employee doesn’t have passion in their workspace that is because of lack of leadership. While having strong leadership the organization will become more effective.
Having strong leadership means we have someone who understands each member, makes good decisions, solves problems, someone who motivates, inspires, and encourages us to have the best work.

I appreciate the concept of (blessingwhite.com) of making the employee work with passion. They also feel a sense of belonging to the company and become clever.
50% of the workforce are from millennials, they seek to improve their lives and they also have all the features to develop and innovate so they increase employment opportunities.

  13. Reading this article which eloquently outlines the needs of leadership in our modern world encouraged me to consider most models of leadership in my workplace (public high schools). It doesn’t need an expert to say that we are far behind in this regard. When it comes to the principle of “coach and be coached”, most “leaders” prioritize their professional career development; however, only a few care to share the knowledge and genuinely train others. Besides, there is a noticeable fear of delegation of authority. Most of them monopolize power and knowledge thriving on the feeling of being needed, instead of empowering those beneath them and teaching them how to be leaders themselves. This is a huge setback that demotivates employees, promotes unhealthy competition, and impedes the development of the institution as a whole. This centralization of leadership stands in stark contrast to the modern concepts of leadership discussed in the article, such as inclusive leadership, collective leadership, and distributive leadership. All of these have decentralization in common and thrive on flexibility and agility. They necessitate a more liberal environment where teamwork is imperative and 360 feedback is appreciated. Individualism, unhealthy competition, rigidity in decision-making, and the monopoly of resources and information must all be mitigated for our leaderships to head in the right direction and address the needs of the century. Under the current leadership, no wonder the public sector is stagnating, and productivity is low.

Another glaring fault in most leaderships in the public domains – excluding overt malpractices and nepotism – is their disregard of the special needs of millennials and Gen Z. According to the article, “…millennials want to be challenged and are willing to work hard.” This suggests that leaders must encourage creativity and create opportunities that would require employees to think outside the box. Being a teacher and subsequently the leader of my classroom, I can attest to this point. Even when many complain that Gen Z is mostly bored and uninterested, students tend to put in more effort, show enthusiasm, and better results when presented with challenging thought-provoking tasks that are aligned with the real world’s needs. Unsurprisingly, even the students who are not academically inclined submit high-quality work when faced with non-traditional creative tasks.

The article also drew my attention to the concepts of vertical and horizontal development. While most educational organizations I worked with encouraged horizontal development, little attention was given to vertical development – again a sign of limiting the employee instead of empowering him/her.

Based on this article, if we want to catch up with the requirements of leadership in this century, we have countless challenges to face in the public sector. First, we need to legislate new laws that allow agility and flexibility in the organization and provide the proper training to prospective leaders. However, will that suffice if we don’t eradicate power-thirst and individualism? I think it’s up to the millennials and Gen Z to break the cycle and introduce new and healthier models of leadership if we are to raise this sector to meet the challenges of this era.

I really found this remarkable that trends are not limited to the world of fashion and beauty, but also to the business world. I became curious to know about the latest trends in leadership, so I can follow them in my career. In my opinion, uncertainty is a core feature of our society nowadays. In order to face uncertainties (social, economic, medical…), a proactive (systematic) plan of actions which lead to sustainability is needed. The SDGs adopted by the UN are a great example. SDG 8 is decent work and economic growth. In order to attain this goal in 2030, innovative leadership will be essential. As a result, new trends in leadership are now available and followed by CEOs all over the world. This article shows that a shift from the control-command model to the coaching model takes place. As a result, the leader is no longer the “Superman” who knows everything and who is able to command employees, solve problems and evaluate the performance. Instead, the leader is the coach who delegates authority and empowers his employees by asking questions and providing support as well as ensuring equity and diversity. So, the employees feel useful and motivated to innovate, create and improve their existing skills. Personally, I liked the new trend that makes the leader obliged to know how the younger generation employees (generation Y and generation Z) communicate, acquire knowledge and work. Although these two generations have many similarities in the workplace (contributing to the good of their societies, using technology, having clear communication, being challenged and motivated…) , but they also have many differences mainly regarding job flexibility and stability as well as the ways of communication. So, leaders nowadays should have a clear understanding of their employees’ expectations and needs at work. Moreover, an effective leader can’t make mistakes and start to blame others. Instead, he should set the vision for a given project, make his employees feel responsible and eager for being involved in this collaborative work which will scaffold their skills and make them more experienced. So, the improvement and the achievement of the intended goals of the organization become collective and the responsibilities will be shared with those qualified and experienced employees even if they are at the lower levels of the hierarchy, rather than being exclusive for the one at the top of the hierarchy who is The Leader.

  15. Even Change is changing. This is a saying that is so relevant today. The never ending push and pull of the environment, with its different aspects, has been causing new trends to arise in leadership. From the CEOs of major companies to the managers of small business or even a solo business owners, all must adapt to the changes and adopt the newer trends to succeed and prosper.

Firstly, a leader should always be open to learn, to teach and to train. Take a teacher for example. What better example of a leader than one who teaches future leaders? But no matter how experienced this teacher is, they must always be ready to learn from their students as much as they teach them. Isn’t a teacher’s work manisfested best when the student surpasses the teacher? After almost 15 years of teaching elemnetary, my 6 or 7 year old students sometimes make me stop and reflect on an idea that I may have overlooked or not given more attention, or maybe make me tweak a strategy or a method of teaching.

Second, almost half of the work force is either a Millenial or a GenZ. This too can be projected on teachers. As such, leaders must take onto account that these two generations are fueled by the need to progress, innovate and create. This is the generation that will bring forth new ideas and implement them, ideas that will be the stepping stones of the generations to come. A leader must then motivate this mentality and nourish it, instead of nipping it in the bud. A coordinator for example should listen to their teachers’ ideas and thoughts and trust that they will achieve better results with time and proper guidance.

Third, a successful progressive working enviromnet is one that is diverse and compatible. Different genders, ethnicities, social levels and more will affect the working environment postively as it will use the skillset and mentality of each individual person, their backgrounds and cultures, their emotional and social intelligence, to create a superior working environment. For example, a school with teachers from different religions, backgrounds, and skillsets will enrich the school’s students, socially, behaviorally or academically. The leader in a school, such as the HR manager, coordinators or achool directors should have that in mind while hiring new teachers.

Finally, leaders must acknowldge the fact that the development of their bisiness will hapoens through 3 main routes: vertical, ownership and collective. I agree wholeheartedly with this. For example, teachers must learn to think in complex creative manner, all teachers must be part of the thought and decision process, all of them adding their skillsets to the group. Schools for example should not be a one-man-show anymore, and neither should it’s individual departments be. The coordinator isn’t God. Thy can make mistakes and theu can learn…which leads back to the first asoect if the blog. Everyone participates, brainstorms and agrees on a decision and as such everyone is responsible for the success of that decision or lack thereof. As a teacher, I don’t want my coordinator to tell me what i should do. I want to be part of the process. And this is also reflected in a classroom. Students should be part of the teaching process, a procative part rather than a passive one.

Projecting this article on a teacher’s aspect has shown me what I should have my sights on, both in the classroom and out of it.

I am a leader, led by another leader, and guiding future leaders.

  16. Leadership is the foundation of a successful business. It’s all about influencing, empowering, encouraging, and managing other people. I’d prefer not to call them followers since they’re influenced by the leaders more than following them blindly. They look up to them and consider them as their mentors. And to be considered as a successful one you need to possess several traits and skills and keep up with all the new trends in the market. I really believe that a leader is a lifelong learner who, as mentioned in this article “coach and be ready to be coached”. Being a leader doesn’t mean that you’re always the most knowledgeable or have the best traits. Each member of the team is unique and has specific skills or has more knowledge than the others in a specific area. Their abilities and skills can really benefit the flow of the work and help the leader. They can work interdependently in a motivating environment, and ensure a successful work. The leader should create a positive environment that helps others feel as if they are a big family. They will have a sense of belonging and feel that they are responsible for the success of the organization they work at. They won’t feel forced to do the work but they will do it with love if they are provided with the needed support and are treated nicely and with respect. So just make sure the workers feel they are important and needed to the job as much as the leader is needed and they will work with a totally different mindset.

  17. *Coach and be ready to be coached* wow what an eye catching subtitle that encouraged me to understand the idea clearly and to know that a successful leader is the one who is ready to learn from others’ experiences and who is a lifelong learner who is willing to hear and accept others feedback in order to enhance the overall productivity, which will help him gaining the enthusiasm and the commitment of the employees. So this article is so beneficial in clarifying the importance of leadership in the success and sustainability of organizations. As the world is in a continuous change and evolution, organizations are facing a more competitive and complex environment. In order to overcome the competition, I think organizations need to adopt new strategies in leadership, since having good strategies in leadership will enhance the productivity of the employees and encourage them to work faster to achieve the wanted goal. Successful leadership is reflected by business leaders who always put the needs of employees ahead of their needs, and work in a cooperative way with them, they focus on developing and motivating others and encouraging their strategic thinking in order to help them achieve their targets. So leadership is about inspiring and scaffolding others to do things they never thought they can do.

It is important to know that a leader must be a coach and at the same time he should be ready to get advice on coaching, that is he must be open for discussions and not mind blocked. Also, a good leader must understand the millennial system of work since these workers are the bright future, and a successful leader must support these millennials in order to bring the best in them.
leadership has many forms, and the leader must be able to use all the forms in their perfect place. which means whenever the situation needs collective leadership the leader must consider hierarchies, open flows of information, use distributed resources and be less centralized and controlled, and when the situation needs distributed leadership the leader must variety of expertise that are distributed across the different levels of the organizational chart.
so based on the above article i gained many information about leadership, and i concluded that being a leader is not an easy job, and when we ask someone to think about a leader that impresses him this person finds it hard to answer.

  19. If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”
    -John Quincy Adams
I chose this quote to explain my opinion
A team must work together to complete work and produce results, but when team members don’t cooperate well, collaboration will be hampered. When the leader’s behavior fails to inspire others, collaboration is also hampered. A collaborative team works together sharing ideas and thinking of a common goal. Collaboration is essential to team success, and inspiring collaboration is essential to collaborative team success.
    Dream more
The collaboration team has a common goal and vision. They have common core beliefs and values. Creating an environment that allows team members to dream requires the leader to share his vision for the team. This will get members to think about their roles, share their dreams, and express their commitments. The dream will build a community of trust and ultimately prioritize team actions
    Learn to trust more
Do your best to understand your team. If team members are to share their dreams and express their commitments, they must trust each other. When the leader first trusts the team, trust begins. to be frank. Efforts to eliminate conflicts so that every team member benefits from suspicion. Trust is the foundation of a collaborative environment and paves the way for continuous learning.
    Do More
more to be responsible for being heard and understood. Recognize the efforts of team members by working with your team and ensuring that everyone is on the same page. Trying to understand everyone’s point of view can empower team members. When we lead by example, we create a collaborative and growing community
    Become More
When leaders share their vision, build trust, and communicate openly, they motivate the team to share goals, learn more about each other and themselves, and prioritize team actions. When a leader dreams, learns and does more things, he will inspire his team to become more!

  20. Leadership is a revolution in skills. Leadership the word itself means leading and not dominating. Leaders should enhance their skill in adapting with their career environment. Leaders should be collaborative and tolerant too. According to CATALYST’S research the 4 core skills are the basic management role and skills for being a leader. An effective leader who can provide a certain degree of autonomy, empower his/her employees to set high expectations for them to reach the company’s visions and comes true. Recognizing one’s ability and boost their efforts through financial rewards, so they will give their best. I admire that every individual is different and has something which differs him/her by nature. Great leaders come up with successful and fruitful employees not in their job, in their real life too.

The leader is responsible to create a collaborative team to work all together through sharing ideas and finding the best strategies to use them in order to achieve the missions and goals set by the company. Having or being a successful leader will influence the employees to work harder, achieve more successes, and improve in their own field or in their working strategies.

So firstly, it is good to know that every leader should know how to coach which means he must be able to discuss and understand everyone since every person thinks differently better said he must have high communication skills. In addition he must be able to set plans and encourage others. Being ready for every situation at any time or any place a great leader must know how and when to take decisions.
I believe that being a leader you never get to reach the maximum level of skills and abilities because leading comes everytime in a different situation it is not a fixed rule to stick on it is based on skills and abilities the more you learn them the better you become.
Finally, a quote that grabbed my attention said by John Quinoy, ” if your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader“. I am sure that everyone can be leader in his own way or in a certain situation.

Leaders must be fully aware that the world we are living in is in constant and rapid change and that they need to be fully prepared to overcome this changes by adopting new skills, abilities and trends. I totally agree with the author that in order to ensure the productivity of the employees they should feel that they represent an important part of the organization and that their work or contribution will actually make a difference, hence giving them the sense of responsibility. Here comes the role of the leader in empowering those employees through realizing and appreciating their work and also through coaching and guiding them alongside the process and in return leaders must be open to receiving feedbacks and employees thoughts and concerns. Also it was mentioned that Leaders must be inclusive, as in creating more chances for women and minorities who are less supported or preferred at the work place so they can express their individuality and creativity that is truly needed and is said to have an association with improved organizational productivity, economical growth and performance. Moreover leaders should adjust their mindset in an effort to meet up with Millennials and Generation Z to ensure their engagement and dedication through giving them a sense of purpose, comfort and flexibility in work, concentrating on their strengths and finally through delegating them projects that fulfill their passion and interest along their company’s targeted goals. Finally leadership in not limited to people with authority, position or money but rather to the ones who have a clear vision alongside the ability and the information needed to meet the goals and needs of the organization.

After reading this article, I gained a lot of knowledge about leadership and noticed that being a leader is not an easy task but by being a good example of an authentic, responsible person of his own tasks, you can help guide others too. It is true that leadership is nurture, either we work on improving it daily so that it accompany us throughout life or we bury it. Being a leader is a big responsibility first, we must learn and be improved and updated to lead ourselves then to be able to lead, encourage, manage and coach others. To be a leader is not to command other just because we are leaders, but to is to be able to communicate, listen and understand others, to know that each person has his/her own perspective and each one think in different way so we have to deal and accept others.
I strongly agree with the tittle “leadership trends” because also in business there are trends to follow up with them as in CEOs there are trends available and followed all over the world. So, the word professional leader is to always update and improve our skills and not to lag new updated and skills in this way we can’t lead; we follow. So to be a great example of a leader we must always be updated to new features and skills.
Now, after getting interested in this article, I start asking myself ‘am I going to be that good leader?

  26. Being a leader stimulates a lot of leadership qualities that are essential in the workplace today. Without these abilities, the leader may be unable to keep up with a quickly changing reality. Leadership is viewed as a process, marked by energy and dedication to focus on common goals and a shared vision for the workplace, rather than a rank or position held. Leaders that create an environment where all employees are valued and revered are actually establishing a workplace where people feel like they belong and have a say in how decisions are made. Employees who are included in decision-making are more likely to take on more responsibility and be more enthusiastic about increasing productivity. Training employees to coach and be coached is one of the leadership trends discussed above.
A leader should follow and use a collective or distributive leadership style, he or she must be aware of some abilities that are critical to effective leadership:
A leader must set an example instead of applying rules to employees.
Also, Capturing the imagination inspires creative thinking and increases loyalty.
In addition, Leaders should behave in different ways according to the situation, give the employees space to act and share ideas and encourage them positively to be more excited and engaged at work.
In conclusion, Good leaders should show courage, passion, confidence, commitment, and ambition in addition to offering direction, inspiration, and leadership. They should develop their employees’ abilities and talents and form teams dedicated to attaining similar objectives.

This is the age of information, a time where you can learn anything for free just by clicking a button.  Change has become  extremely rapid and keeping up with such a progressive life in general  and market needs more specifically is a pretty big challenge especially for investors, stakeholders and CEOS.
In general, there is a shift in needs on several levels, professional, personal, emotional… people are not like they used to be so leaders must be very aware of how to deal with all these dynamics and turn it to their favour or else they’ll have to face dreadful consequences ( nokia is an example).
Now, what can leaders do to achieve optimal results and extract the best possible outcomes from their businesses?
    1-on the personal level:
-Leaders must possess qualities like: flexibility and will to be coached even by people with a lower position at work.
    – Analytical abilities to read the present and anticipate the possibilities of the future.
2- on the team/staff level: Leaders must be wise enough to assess and figure out the interests and ambitions of their team members in order to put each person in their right spot.  Speech must be friendly and the team must have the right to take part in decision making in order  for them to feel like they belong to the institution they work for. Leaders must encourage initiatives and give rewards and make sure every drop of energy invested by their staff to  be well  appreciated and motivated.

We’re at a time where leaders are leading other leaders, no followers needed, at the end leaders are creative, followers aren’t and without creative minds  no company can stand a chance.

People also discuss the difference between a boss and a leader on social media. In an academic context, this can be denoted as the controversy between a manager and a leader.
Both are equally important for a managerial position. Of course, a leader might encompass more of the technical skills of the manager whilst the manager cannot always encompass leader characteristics. A leader is able to strategically plan and think about the aims and individuals hovering around his work process. A manager is supposed to do that and might succeed in all the tactical targets and evaluation indicators that are set in a job occupation but still might not be a true leader.
A leader is able to foresee and evaluate what the indicator is not able to show. This is like the hunch a professional doctor would have when he meets a case that either looks like all of the matching diagnostic criteria or does not at all and still is able to find the right diagnosis.
Sixth sense based on experience and naturalistic instinctual intelligence are core characteristics of a leader.

I thought it was fascinating that trends are not restricted to the worlds of fashion and beauty, but also to the world of business. I got interested in learning about the most recent leadership trends so that I might follow them in my work. Uncertainty, in my opinion, is a key characteristic of our current culture. In order to deal with a variety of uncertainties, a proactive (systematic) action plan that leads to long-term sustainability is required. The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals are a wonderful example. The eighth Sustainable Development Goal focuses on decent work and economic growth. Innovative leadership will be required to achieve this target in the future. As a result, new leadership trends are now accessible, and CEOs all around the world are following them.

This article demonstrates how the control-command approach is giving way to the coaching model. As a result, the leader is no more the “Superman” who knows everything and can command, solve issues, and evaluate performance. Instead, the leader acts as a coach, delegating responsibility and empowering his team by asking questions, offering assistance, and guaranteeing equity and diversity. Moreover, people are encouraged to innovate, develop, and upgrade their current abilities.

Business leaders that put the needs of their workers first and work cooperatively with them demonstrate successful leadership. They focus on developing and inspiring others and promoting strategic thinking in order to assist them accomplish their goals. Furthermore, leadership is about motivating and enabling people to achieve goals they never imagined possible.

This article echoed my views and opinions on what leadership entails. New pressures are emerging in our quickly changing world. Leaders must develop new ways to operate in order to negotiate higher customer demands, a deep skepticism of business, and so much remote working. For this to happen, cultivating a leadership presence is essential. After reading the essay, we can come to the conclusion that a leader must be able to maintain focus in the face of unexpected interruptions, be open to new ideas, and establish trusting relationships. People are attracted to other people. Leaders who know who they are, what they stand for, and what really matters lead by example.

A successful leader is a leader who is inspiring, appreciates differences, and has a growth mindset. He should not give orders or instruct, but rather a good leader must lead a team, be involved in the battlefield like any other soldier.
A successful leader must empower his team and be ready to be empowered by others. He should also ensure that he/she is at the top of things and is always willing to learn and improve his/ her skills especially with the massive changes in technology and digital learning.
Effective leaders are strategic thinkers, they should know where his/her organization is (where they are) , where they want to be, and be able to identify the gaps they have.
They must be able to overcome these gaps to reach the future. They must be decision makers, must have good communication skills, and they should embrace and promote diversity.
On the other hand, leaders must empower their team members and make them accountable and responsible and must be ready to take actions when needed.
As the world is rapidly changing, and the evolution in technology is increasing, there will be high competition among leaders and in the workplace. Therefore, leaders have to ensure that they are adapted with the needed skills and must find a way to gain the commitment of both millennials and generation z cohorts.

There is a huge difference between being a boss and being a leader where not everyone can understand this issue and this article highlighted on the main traits and actions of a real successful leader. Being a leader is not something easy since this person should take into consideration himself and the group or team he is working with. That’s why being a leader costs power, vision, strength, application, time and skills. But in order for someone to be a leader he should have some characteristics that enables him/her to be a leader. John Maxwell once said: “Leadership is not about titles, positions or flowcharts. It is about one life influencing another”. In other words, a successful leader is the one who influence others to work, succeed, aim for goals and set vision to apply the mission. A real leader is a strategic person who manages the issues and work hard to accomplish goals. That’s why the approaches of being a leader differed from one to another. Some leaders are born with leadership characteristics which are innate and some use their leadership skills according to the situations and others according to a certain behavior. But overall, a real leader should know that situations are in rapid evolvement and should consider the global competition and technological evolvement and should make sure that by the strong bond between him and his team will succeed in keeping pace with the world’s development. Thus, a real leader should be a person who influence his subordinates by his success, work, goals, aims, approaches, visions, work evolvement and technology usage. In this way, the team members will have a trust towards their leader that is willing to cope to any consequence that the firm might face. He should take into consideration the diversity in his team since people from different cultures and backgrounds can share information and come up with new trends, solutions, work and goals where the team is not stuck in a certain place and these team members will be willing to work hard and accomplish goals if the leader stresses on their needs and support them with directive and supportive styles. And in this way each person may feel like he is a leader who is responsible for a certain task and will accomplish it for the sake of the company. To support this point Gandhi once said: “A sign of a good leader is not how many followers you have but how many leaders you create.”

This comes due to people managing their employees from the practitioner side and not as policy makers. A manager is the leader that must always forecast based on data, then prescribes for plan B and C, after that he monitors the situation, and finally evaluates the results in a transparent and objective point of view. This occurs correctly when the leader uses in his company 3 lenses: rational, structural, and cultural lens. Where he appreciates the employees point of view, takes into consideration the obstacles that are facing and listens to their alternatives. A good leader is the one who makes all his employees leaders. By putting his own disciplines based on different values such as: individualism, through increasing their vertical, horizontal, and owner development. Moreover, through making an atmosphere full of liberty, fraternity, and equality that gives the individual the sense of holding responsibility towards developing the place where he works because he considers it the world that belongs to him, to his personality development, and his gate to boost the society he lives in.

Being a leader, particularly in this modern era, needs a diverse set of leadership skills that are now required in the workplace. Without these skills, the leader may find it difficult to keep up with a rapidly changing reality. Employees at a company must be open to all types of feedback, especially peer and 360 feedback, where everyone in the organization believes he or she can always benefit from other people’s perspectives. One of the leadership trends discussed in the prior article is the training of employees to teach and be taught. Employees who participate in decision-making are more inclined to take on extra responsibilities and are more committed to increasing productivity. Rather than simply developing more followers, a smart leader empowers other leaders. Decentralization is a key trend for effective leadership, in which delegating tasks or responsibilities takes precedence over confining choices to a single individual.Leaders must provide professional development to their employees in accordance with their needs. Respecting diversity and personal differences among employees at work may lead to acceptance, attention, and support for others, as well as providing the same attention to other members. Furthermore, workplace respect for diversity may generate a more pleasant work environment in which employees may focus on their own concerns and are not afraid to express them. There are five fundamental abilities for effective leadership that leaders must be aware of.The leader must be able to lead by listening to and understanding what his or her employees require of him or her. He or she must also be able to make long-term judgments that benefit the company:
-A leader must lead by example: if you want your employees to be on time, you can’t be 10 minutes late every day. Imaginative thinking will be stimulated, and loyalty will be increased. It is not necessary for the vision to be grandiose, but it must be well-articulated in order for people to adopt it as their own. You must first establish an environment in which people believe they can pursue their passions if you want to make a difference in the world.
-Don’t just keep doing things the same way because that’s how we’ve always done them.
-Wales Simon Hooper discusses how social media may be used to allow people to act independently within their level of authority in the first of a series of essays. Hooper explores the importance of allowing people to feel like they belong in the second piece. He feels that being able to manage one’s own life and not relying too heavily on others is essential.
-Being a great leader and demonstrating great leadership necessitates and requires a diverse set of skills, including creativity, effective decision-making, problem-solving, openness, empathy, innovation, vision, and adaptation in the face of future unpredictability. A positive attitude is contagious. Others will pick up on the leader’s enthusiasm if he or she appears enthused about the vision.

  41. “Leadership is an action, not a position.” (Donald McGannon). Leadership is not about the role we hold in an organization, rather it is about the action we choose to take. It is quite simply about choice and behavior. Also, leadership is the art of motivating a group of people to act toward achieving a common goal.
Moreover, a successful leader is the one who can make the proper decision, has the ability to interact and communicate with others, empower his team and be ready to be empowered by others. He should ensure that he is at the top of things and is always willing to learn and improve his skills especially with the massive changes in technology and digital learning. The ability to empower people and encourage mutual effectiveness is a key component of leadership.
In addition to that, effective leaders are strategic thinkers. They don’t tell you what to do. They show you how it’s done, and they remind you of the difference between a boss and a leader, since a boss says “Go” but a leader says “Let’s go”. Being a great leader means to have the following characteristics and skills, including creativity, self confidence, effective decision-making, problem-solving, innovative thinking, management skills, empathy, vision, willingness to take risks, openness to change, and level headedness and re-activeness in times of crisis.
Finally, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader”, (John Quincy Adams). So, great leaders know how to both inspire people and get followers to complete the tasks that achieve the learner’s goal.

Also, it is worth mentioning that an effective leader is the one who supports everyone in his organization and praise them, so that they could feel that any success in their job belongs to them all, since it is because of their efforts and time spent to achieve this goal.
Moreover, the effective leader is the one who has the ability to lead various skills, comminicate well, and demonstrate empathy, confidence, persistence and integrity.

  43. John Maxwell, an author who wrote about leadership, said, “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way”. Being a boss is not the same as being a leader and this article shed light on this issue particularly. One thing that really caught my attention was the importance of taking individual values and personal differences into consideration in an organization leading to people actually enjoying what they are doing, as such being even more productive. In fact, the leadership trends mentioned in the article were very interesting and empowering. When looking at the first one which is “Coach and be ready to be coached”, we clearly get the idea that coaching is a need in every organization both on the employees’ side and the leader’s side to enhance productivity. One should always seek for improvement and accept constructive feedback just as John F. Kennedy used to say, “Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other”. Another trend these days is realizing that it’s a millennial and gen Z world now and that is actually true. We are living in a world where almost more than 50% of the employees are millennials which is a big number that must be considered. An interesting thing that was mentioned was that they tend to go for more challenging work and are very positive and creative as they get interesting ideas and have high expectations. It is indeed the leaders’ role to have a collaborative mindset to get the commitment of millennials and Generation Z cohorts. Leaders must strive to achieve as much inclusiveness as possible and make sure that everyone in the workplace thrives and fulfills their potential. Leadership might differ from one manager to another but that doesn’t mean that it’s totally different. However, we are all submitted to changing and evolving due to the constant changes in the environment. As shown in this article, the role of a leader is essential and based on skills and trends these days. We can sum up with another quote by John Maxwell which is, “The single biggest way to impact an organization is to focus on leadership development. There is almost no limit to the potential of an organization that recruits good people, raises them up as leaders and continually develops them.”

  44. This article was really useful and fascinating as it displays the most recent trends that leaders must be aware of in order to aid in the change of their workplace beyond that, it addresses how dispersed leadership is important in a business since it spreads more experience and information across employees. John C. Maxwell once said ‘’Leadership is influence’’ basically, leadership is an influence process that assists groups of individuals toward goal attainment, it is a transactional event that occurs between the leader and his or her supporters which means that a leader influences and is influenced by his or her followers, therefore, Leadership is impossible without influence. Besides, Leaders have an ethical responsibility to attend to the needs and concerns of followers, it is focused with how the leader influences his or her followers. it does not even exist in the absence of influence. At the same time, leadership happens in groups by an enthusiasm and dedication to focusing on common goals and a shared vision for the company, it may also refer to a more comprehensive approach, such as the tone established by a company’s management or the culture that management produces. This article clarifies how the command-and-control model is giving way to the coaching model. So, who is a leader? A good leader is the one who understands how things can be improved and motivates people to work toward that better vision as he inspires others and knows each member of his team, with communication, dedication, and attitude as vital leadership ingredients. However, Leaders may try to make their vision a reality while prioritizing people as he should think about the diversity of his staff. Thus, to be effective, leaders must be sympathetic, creative, and ethical among others, and the ability to accept responsibilities and connect with others in addition to being able to encourage them. Leadership skills are important skills to be provided in the workplace because a good manager is able to provide the employees with the healthy working environment that can bring out the best abilities in them. That’s why working in a place that provide teams with comfortable environment but low salaries is more important for workers than a place that will give them a lot of money but will put them in a negative energy atmosphere throughout their working hours. 48. Skills required for a leader are plenty cannot be limited to a set of defined skills.
A leader with CEO level must compile a huge set of skills and knowledge for purpose of developing a company infrastructure that ensures the stakeholders interests, customer’s satisfaction, and consistent product quality in timely manner and hence requires a team with high expertise to support him with the facts, recommendations, plans and so on and hence requires knowledge concerning each company department or team tasks and technical skills. Yet the key skills for a leader are indeed the soft skills such as work ethics, communication, agility, decisiveness, teamwork, time management and most importantly interpersonal skill.
As organizations have a broad set of operations, delegation of authority based on a well-defined hierarchy in essential for empowering the workforce and ensuring the higher percentage is loyal and have a high sense of belonging to the organization, which is done through process reengineering in such a manner where different categories of the workforce such as experienced, innovative, thriving employees are accounted for with a rewarding career path and development.
Leadership approach might differ from one team to another depending on the tasks and duties of the team, for example a technical maintenance department would require a horizontal, and ownership approach where business development department requires a vertical and collective development approach.
To conclude, Leadership skills, techniques, and tools are unlimited yet no teams, departments or organizations would succeed without leaders in the team.
